Why I'm running
I'm not a career politician. In fact, I don't much care for politics and I've never been involved in politics or ran for office. I'm a wife and mother of four adult children who I, along with my amazing husband, raised in the Mitchell school area for over a decade. During this time I have seen my city decline in ways that impact me and my family: rising and uncontrolled crime, a lack of things for kids and families to do, wasteful spending and high taxes, and a lack of transparency in city government. These issues impact all of us and the current elected officials have done little to solve these problems. After experiencing the impacts of this rising crime, I decided to get involved and run for office to make my voice, and yours, heard. I will bring your concerns and work with you and city hall to development workable and effective solutions to the challenges facing our city.
My Story
I was born in Michigan and raised in several states as my mother was a migrant worker. We moved around the country to work in the fields. My childhood was difficult: we experienced poverty, homelessness, and much more, but these experiences made me the woman I am today. I earned my HSED, got married to my best friend at the time, Daniel, and raised my four children as a stay-at-home mother. After my divorce from Daniel, I later re-entered the workforce as a airplane cleaning technician, a labor intensive job, before being promoted to station manager.
In 2012, I married my current husband, Josh, and moved to Racine with my four children. We have lived in the Mitchell School area since that time. I am thankful to have married someone who loves my children as his own and who has been a role model for them.
In 2018, I completed my associates degree in human resources from MATC. I've worked in several roles in the medical field, including as a branch manager for a respiratory care company, but landed my dream job as a scheduling specialist at Gateway Technical College in 2022.
I am a person of faith and stand by my convictions. I believe in treating others as I want to be treated. As your representative on city council, I will work cooperatively with all members to get the job done. I will develop coalitions and serve as a strong voice and advocate for District 10.
While conflict is sometimes a part of the political process, I am a unifier and consensus builder by nature. I also believe in the power of forgiveness. Daniel, my first husband, and my current husband, our best friends. We spend a lot of time together as a family, celebrating the many birthdays, holidays, and milestones together.
As a parent, I am proud to have raised children who are responsible, respectful, and who keep the faith. Our oldest, Nikolas, graduated from Gateway and works in HVAC. He's married and gave us the blessing of our first grandchild in 2021. Miguel graduated from Gateway with a degree in automotive technology and is married as well. Thalia is a graduate of Gateway's cosmetology program and Tatiana is completing her degree in IT Software Development at Gateway.
