Crime is at an unacceptable level in Racine. There are over 72 shots fired a week, fights downtown, and murders. Crime tears neighborhoods and families apart. I grew up on the southside of Milwaukee in the barrio where I saw my share of crime. I moved my family out of Milwaukee as soon as I could, but we shouldn't have to do that in Racine. We must have the courage to make hard choices, hold criminals accountable, prioritize the rights of victims, and use evidence-based, tried-and-true approaches to tackling crime. My husband, who has graduate degree in a criminal justice related field and has worked in the field for over a decade, will serve as my most trusted advisor on criminal justice issues.

Racine has the highest mill rate of any municipality in Racine County. While a certain amount of taxes are required to operate government, Racine is not known to be a city that best manages their finances and budget. I will work to "right-size' city government while assuring we provide efficient, quality services to residents. I will also work with fellow alders and Mayor Mason to continue to bring new developments to Racine and grow our tax base, while being thoughtful about TIF districts as they ultimately increase property taxes for residents.
